Ugh ! I can’t believe it . I slept through the whole movie. Gosh another$12 dollars wasted. I guess I’ll just see with when it comes out on DVD.

Far too many times those are my thoughts after a trip to the cinema. Why can’t I stay awake during a movie? I have tried many methods to try to keep myself to stay awake. Sleeping before I go, munching on a snack during the movie and sitting in an upright position with my eyes drilled on the screen. However slowly but surely I began to feel my eyes get drowsy and I began to blink frequently. My snack is gone, so now all my focus is towards the film.  The upright position I was maintaining became more and more relaxed. Until before I know it “zzzzzzzz” I’m passed out. Curled up in one of those filthy theater chairs. In most cases I will wake up for a moment or two during the duration of the film. But on a couple of frustrating occasion I sleep all the way through until the credits roll and the lights beam from the top of the theater. Maybe I just don’t have the attention span to watch whole movie. Theirs just something about a dark , chilly theater that makes me sleepy. I wish so badly to be able to leave the movie and talk about what actually happen in the movie and not what happened  in my dreams. I have come to realize that I’m more likely to fall asleep more often and quicker. During an animated film, rather than a film staring  real people. But non the less its still frustrating . Maybe I should just stop trying and wait for the movie to come out on DVD. So I can watch it over and over and over and over again…just in case I do fall asleep .

Just A Thought : Paula Dean Has Diabetes

Paula Dean has diabetes. Not a surprise for anyone who has seen any of the southern chefs butter-packed television shows (Paula’s Best Dishes, Paula’s Home Cooking). Some might call her the queen of calories due to the unhealthy dishes she prepares on those popular shows. She is known for her heavy use of butter and sugar. Before the announcement of her having diabetes; which she has actually been living with for 2 years now. Their was little controversy surrounding the funny lady, besides her little spat with chef Anthony Bourdain. And the fact that most of her recipes include tons of butter. She was loved by everyone. But now the backlash begins. Paula Dean is single handily the reason why everyone in America has type 2 diabetes. Yeah right. Now no one is actually saying that but why are people so mad? Yes she is preparing very unhealthy meals for an audience that defiantly doesn’t need them but so. It’s the viewer s choice weather to prepare that for their family or not too. And now even people who don’t even prepare her recipes are mad at her for getting diabetes. I somewhat see the frustration in the fact that she has known for 2 years about her diabetes but still continues to promote her buttery recipes. But again we all have the choice of what we serve at our dinner table. Is Paula Deans career over? No. She could use this tragic medical condition to introduce healthier foods to her audience. Which she has already done by adding alternative cooking options for some of her recipes on her website. Her son Bobby is also set to premiere his new show “Not My Mama’s Meals”. Which will feature healthier versions of his moms recipes. Maybe Paula Dean having diabetes will in courage people to eat more healthy. Maybe. But whats not questionable is her kindness and sweet southern charm. People will eat fried chicken and Krispy Kreme pudding weather Paula Dean is making it on tv or not. Because its freaking delicious !  Just a Thought.

Just a Thought: 2012 Grammy Nominations

Image DetailGrammy ! Grammy ! Grammy ! It’s that time of the year, when the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences release the nominations for the annual Grammy Awards. This year the academy have made big changes to the annual show. Merging or discontinuing numerous categories. Bringing the number of categories from 109, all the way down to 79 (thank god). Of course they didn’t get rid of any of the main categories such as Album of the Year and Record of the Year. But categories that were cut include the likes of , Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals and Best Contemporary R&B Album. So Grammy sweeps, where artist win 7 or 8 categories in one year. Will be a lot less likely to see now. To me the Grammy category cut was very necessary and  makes a Grammy win more exclusive.  However the cut will also lead to a lot more, salty artist. Fans got a little taste of that bitterness this year. With alleged snubs all across the board. The more vocal Jill Scott took to Twitter to vent her frustration about her #1 Album, Light of the Sun receiving not a single nomination. And newcomer Miguel also took to Twitter to express his resentment of the nominations “I’m F*cking Pissed Yo. I don’t think I’m Gods gift to music but I know the Album or at LEAST Sure Thing should have been Nominated.,” he tweeted.  Ok.. Now its wonderful to be recognized for your work, especially if you put your heart into it. But really the Grammys? What does a Grammy win really do for an artist? Are there studies showing that a Grammy win for Best Country Album or Best R&B Performance boost sales? Maybe it helps the artist sell more tickets to shows. It seems like its just a self esteem thing . If the music is good. Its good. Grammy or not. It would be interesting to hear opinions of very recognized and veteran artist about the category cut. The best example this year would probably be the Queen Bee, Beyonce. Who was almost shut out of the awards. Receiving only two nominations for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with “Party” featuring Andre 3000 and Best Long Form Music Video for the “I Am…Tour”. A big disappointment  from her usual showing. If this was last year Beyonce would more than likely have received a nomination for the now defunct category  Best Contemporary R&B Album, a category she has won for all 3 of her previous solo albums. She would have probably  received a nomination in all the female vocal performance categories. Separate gender categories are also a thing of the past this year. But what artist doesn’t feel snubbed when the Grammy nominations come out? Lets remember people the Grammy Awards is a national telecast pushing for …ratings. And possibly basing their nominations on the popularity of the artist and not the quality of material they are putting out. Hmmmm. Just a thought.
